Reconsider Frozen Foods
Don’t By-Pass the Frozen Foods Section
When I say “frozen food,” – what comes to mind?
For some, frozen pizza, “tv dinners,” ice cream, and other foods high in added sodium, sugar, and fat.
These are the so-called processed food (all foods are processed) – the highly processed food.
Convenience foods.
Sure, those are foods found in the freezer section.
And what else is there in the freezer section?
There are plenty of frozen vegetables and fruit.
Some have added ingredients – like cheese in the vegetables and sugar syrup in the fruit.
There is chicken and fish—some breaded, such as chicken tenders, patties, and fish sticks.
But there is also chicken and fish that is just that – chicken and fish.
There is salmon and tilapia in the freezer section. In addition, there are chicken tenderloins and chicken thighs in the freezer section.
Plenty of things in the freezer are not the healthiest for us.
There are also plenty of things in the freezer that is just fine.
Give the freezer section another look.
Vegetables and plain (brown and white) rice in the freezer – packages with an ingredient list of just one or two things.
Fruit in the freezer that works for smoothies or a quick dessert. Or, pack for lunch. Pack in the morning; by lunch, they are “just right.”
Protein, like chicken and fish, could be defrosted in the morning or some cases, cooked from frozen. No breading too.
Don’t skip the freezer section on the assumption that it is all frozen burritos and pie crusts. There is a lot more to the freezer section.
